Dr. Neiman and Associates,

Thank You.
Thank You.
Thank You.

Is that enough? Probably not. Not for all that you all have done.

After almost a year of using a Hair System, (Big Mistake) I finally came to you. I can not believe the results. I seem to have more hair now than I've had in years and it is all natural. I can comb it, wash it, and dry it any way I want because it is all natural. I can be normal without feeling inadequate. No more trying to comb over. (Did I mention it was natural?)

With this feeling of normalcy my general attitude has improved as well. I am going out more and having more fun than I have in years. I no longer feel as if people are staring at me or laughing at me behind my back.

People have said I have changed over the last year. I am more laid back … easy going if you would. I owe this new outlook and attitude to you and your staff and the terrific job you did on my hair. The wonderful job you have done has made me a new man. I cannot thank you enough. My only regret is that I did not do it earlier. Too soon old (looking) too late smart.

Kenneth M.

Procedure

Hair Transplantation is an innovative procedure that is performed by taking individual hair follicles from a donor site and moving them to bald or balding areas. The strip method of hair transplantation, utilized by our office, involves moving a thin strip of tissue that contains hair follicles from the "donor" site (usually residing in the back of the scalp) to the "recipient" or bald area. The donor site is sutured and left to heal for 10 to 14 days, at which point the sutures are removed. After removal, the strip of tissue is separated into a number of smaller skin grafts that all contain a hair follicle with between one and four strands of hair. The number of hairs on the grafts depends on the hair density of the donor site. The doctor then makes a series of microscopic incisions in the area where the hair is thinning, and places a single graft into each of the incisions. The implanted hair follicles will be in the dormant stage of the hair growth cycle for up to three months following the procedure. Once the three months have passed, the implanted hair follicles will begin to grow just like normal hair at the rate of 1/2 per month.

Hair transplantation began as a simple procedure where circles of skin or "plugs" from the back of the scalp were excised as single arbitrary units and implanted on the bald skin at the crown and hairline. This overly simplistic approach led to unsatisfactory cosmetic results that were clearly evident when considering the entire hairline was composed of connecting circles. Additionally, scarring on the back of the scalp could become very noticeable. This old method was abandoned in the early 1990s.

Procedures have improved to a new standard where great care and planning by Dr. Neiman ensures a natural-looking hairline, as well as a full head of hair. These two goals are achieved through two different methods of grafting: mini-grafting and micro-grafting.

Micro-Grafting

In order to create a natural looking hairline, the hair placement by Dr. Neiman must be both precise and slightly irregular. No person has a hairline of rigid angles or a conformed strip of hair, and Dr. Neiman is well aware of this. This is why when preparing the donor grafts from the hair at the back of your scalp, Dr. Neiman cuts very fine micro-grafts which consist of just one to three hairs each. These small grafts can be implanted at the desired hairline in a natural-looking fashion due to their small size.

Mini-Grafting

Although the fine nature of micro-grafts is quite natural-looking, they are also less voluminous. It takes many hours to transplant a full head of hair, Dr. Neiman cuts mini-grafts of about four to seven hairs each that can be used for the bulk of the balding skin, but behind the micro-grafts which consist of one to three hairs. This way, the fullness of the scalp is attained without sacrificing the meticulous work done with the hairline.

How is hair transplantation performed?
Hair transplantation involves taking individual hair follicles from the back of the scalp (an area where the hair is genetically programmed to never fall out) and moving them to the bald or thinning areas. The strip method of hair transplantation, utilized by our office, involves removing a thin strip of tissue that contains hair follicles from the back of the scalp (donor site). The donor site is sutured and left to heal for 10 to 14 days. After removal, the strip of tissue is dissected into a number of smaller skin grafts that all contain a hair follicle with between one and four strands of hair. The number of hairs on the grafts depends on the hair density of the donor site. The doctor then makes a series of microscopic incisions in the area where the hair is thinning (recipient site), and places a single graft into each of the incisions. After the hair is transplanted, it will then continue to grow in the new location for a lifetime and will never fall out.
Where is a hair transplant done?
Hair transplantation is done in an outpatient setting. Patients are given oral sedation followed by local anesthesia to the donor and recipient sites. They walk in and walk out the same day.
Does it look natural?
In order to create a natural looking hairline, the hair placement by Dr. Neiman must be both precise and slightly irregular. No person has a hairline of rigid angles or a perfect brick wall of hair, so Dr. Neiman must create a natural appearing hairline. This is why when preparing the donor grafts from the hair at the back of your scalp, Dr. Neiman cuts very fine micro-grafts which consist of just one to two hairs each. These small grafts can be implanted at the desired hairline in a natural-looking fashion due to their small size.

The fine nature of micro-grafts is quite natural-looking. It takes many hours to skillfully and artistically transplant the follicles. Dr. Neiman cuts mini-grafts of about three to four hairs each that can be used for the bulk of the balding skin, but the micro-grafts which consist of one or two hairs are used for the hairline. This way, the final result is attained with everything looking completely natural.
Who is an ideal candidate for hair transplantation?
Nearly any patient with noticeable hair loss can undergo hair transplantation. Ideal candidates have healthy areas of hair on the back of the scalp that can serve as donor areas for the procedure. The most common condition treated is male and female pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia). However, other conditions such as scarring disorders resulting from injury, diseases, or previous surgery of the scalp, can also be treated with hair transplantation.
What results can be expected?
The results of hair transplantation appear gradually as the transplanted hair falls out (shock loss) and then regrows to restore a natural appearance. The transplanted hair follicles will be in the dormant stage of the hair growth cycle for up to three months following the procedure. Once the three months have passed, the transplanted hair follicles will begin to grow just like normal hair at the rate of ½ inch per month. The incisions will fade over time to become less noticeable as well. Desired results may be achieved after approximately 6-12 months, although this varies from patient to patient.
